When we landed in Tel Aviv, Israel it was significant for several reasons.
This was the first time either of us had traveled to the Middle East; moreover, it was the official ending to our backpacking adventures in SE Asia.
I had noticed in recent months our enthusiasm for travel had somewhat waned. In most cases this signifies that we’re either burnt out or bored.
In hindsight, I realize we needed a new challenge and traveling to the Middle East has once again whetted our appetite for adventure and exploration.
I still remember the first morning we woke up in Jaffa. Our plane had arrived past midnight and we didn’t clear customs until roughly 1:30 AM. By the time we got to our hotel it was pitch black outside and we had no idea of our surroundings.
As I opened the window in the morning, I was treated to beachfront views with a cool wind blowing on my face. It was refreshing. In the rear-view mirror was the heat and humidity of SE Asia along with the chaotic roads, scooters and random odors.
